Best Split-Screen Multiplayer Games On PS4, Ranked
The PS4 is not exactly known for local multiplayer, but there are a few split-screen games that are a lot of fun to play.
Depending on the mode you pick, you’ll go up against a team of five players and have some specific objectives. However, when you first start playing the game, these tips will easily allow you to get ahead of others and come out on top.
Each Game Mode Needs A Different Strategy
As soon as you log in to Concord and click on the Play button, the first thing you’ll see is a bunch of game modes that you can try out. The three modes with bigger banners are called Playlists, and you’ll be able to take part in Brawl and Overrun playlists at the start, with Rivalry unlocking as you level up your account.
When you play for the first time, it’s highly recommended to go through the Training in this area.
This not only explains the basic mechanics, but also helps you learn
how to use three basic Freegunners
.
You’ll need some specific strategies based on the game mode you pick because of the differences between them:
Time Trials |
This is a single-player game mode where you can perfect your movements with specific Freegunners while also attempting to get a higher ranking on the leaderboard, which records the attempts of all players. |
---|---|
Brawl |
This playlist can be considered the team deathmatch of Concord as the main objective here is to defeat players from the other team. Depending on the mode you get, you’ll either just have to defeat players or collect their bounty cards after defeating them. |
Overrun |
This is a more advanced playlist, and it’s also the perfect balance between Brawl and Rivalry. In this one, your team essentially has to keep control of as many zones as possible, but you’ll consistently get respawned after being defeated. |
Rivalry |
This can be considered the hard mode of Concord as you won’t be able to instantly respawn in this playlist. Instead, the game is round-based and you only get one life each round with unique objectives. |
Switch Characters Frequently For Crew Bonus
Once you select a playlist you want to play and get into the game, the next step is to pick the character you’d like to play. This can get a little complicated since most people would think that it’s better to pick one character and stick with them. However, every time you’re defeated, you can choose a different character for the next respawn.
In round-based games of Rivalry, you can
only win one round as each Freegunner Variant
since it gets locked after that.
However, if you have multiple copies of the same Variant in your crew, you can pick them multiple times.
When you look at a character’s ability description, you’ll see their crew bonus on the top right side. This bonus is applied to you for the rest of the game once you’re defeated while using that character or the round ends. This makes it highly important to switch between characters from various crew bonuses before using your main character.
Keep in mind that each type of bonus can only be applied once, and you can have a total of six bonuses in the game:
- Increase healing received
- Faster dodge cooldown
- Improved mobility
- Improved weapon recoil
- Faster reload speed
- Longer weapon range
It’s important to figure out the bonuses you’d want on your main unit before you play them, especially in round-based games.
Know What Every Freegunner Does
Once you spend a few hours playing Concord, you’ll likely have around three or four Freegunners that you’d want to play. While you need to understand all your favorite characters’ abilities properly, it’s also highly recommended to read what each Freegunner does before you get into a game.
For example, even if you don’t play Lark yourself, it’s important to know that he can place multiple traps on the ground, which can slow your team and make them vulnerable. Once you read each character’s kit, you’ll be able to understand what they do and how to avoid them much more easily.
Pay Attention To Your Surrounding At All Times
Following up on the last point, it’s quite important to pay attention to your surroundings while you’re in a game of Concord. There are various Freegunners that can put different types of traps on the map, with some of them revealing your location while others simply dealing heavy damage to your character on impact.
These traps are fairly easy to spot, but they can also be easily missed due to how fast-paced the game is. It’s important to keep an eye out for them since stepping into a trap can easily result in defeat. Furthermore, you can also hear enemies very clearly if you pay attention, which will help you understand where the danger is coming from.
Fill In The Right Role
Unlike other games from the same genre, Concord doesn’t have well-defined role-based boundaries between different types of characters. While you can tell that certain characters are meant to be tanks or supports, most other characters fall on a spectrum where their damage is based on their utility.
This makes it increasingly important to choose the right character for your team, especially in round-based game modes. For example, if everyone is playing squishy characters with high damage, you can pick 1-0FF, Star Child, or Emari to get a little more tankiness on the team.
Keep An Eye On The Job Board
While on the main menu, you’ll be able to see a button to head over to the Job Board. This area contains various quests divided into daily, weekly, seasonal, variants, freegunners, and reputation tasks. Out of all these, you’ll mainly find tasks in the first four while the last two automatically level up as you play specific Freegunners and the game in general respectively.
These tasks are not only the best way to increase your Reputation quickly, but also highly important to unlock special cosmetics and Freegunner Variants. These two items are changed every week, allowing you to get even more Variants and better customizations for your crew.
Positioning Is Important
Once you’ve selected the game mode and character you want to play, the best thing you can do is pay attention to your positioning. This may sound easy to do, but is actually one of the hardest tasks to master in Concord since your position should be different based on the Freegunner you’re playing.
For example, tank Freegunners would always want to stay in the front while sniper units like Vale need to protect themselves and stay far away as they don’t have much defense if the enemy gets close. Moreover, stealth units like Kyps require even higher experience with positioning since she can get defeated quite easily if you don’t have an escape plan.
One thing that stays true for every character when it comes to positioning is the
importance of knowing where your team members are
and sticking together as much as possible.
Get Healing When You Need It
As soon as you start playing a game, you’ll quickly notice some white icons on the minimap on the top left of your screen. These mark the locations of healing spots. Once you stand on top of them, these will heal your character up a certain amount and then slowly keep healing them until your health is full.
If you’ve challenged the enemy and are left with less than half HP, it’s highly recommended to make your way to one of these spots unless you have other means of healing. Alternatively, if you’re playing a character like Lennox with self-healing ability, it’s recommended to leave these for your teammates.
If you
take damage while getting healed
through any means, the healing will stop instantly.
