Derek Overview And Schedule

Derek works at the cafe in town, and when he’s not there, he’s either at home with his brother Jules or out in the mountains. He’s adventurous and keeps the local kids from getting into too much trouble, and he has his own issues to deal with.

It’s not hard to find Derek at all, especially during the work week. He’s almost always in the main part of town unless there’s a holiday or it’s a market day. When the weather is terrible, he’s more likely to be found at home.

Best Gifts For Derek

Derek is an interesting guide with specific tastes. He likes all bugs, but especially the giant beetles you can find across town. Avoid giving him any healthy foods or junk, like weeds.

Additionally, the medals you dig up around the town make great gifts–though you’d normally want to sell them for extra cash. If you can spare a few to part with, Derek is sure to fall for you in no time.

Derek Heart Events And Requests

Getting to know Derek takes time, and he spends his days working–which makes it a bit harder to get alone time with him. However, you can share several moments together as you build a relationship, from chatting on his break to visiting him at home.

As you increase your heart level with Derek, new requests will pop up. These must be completed before you can progress further with Derek, and you’ll want to come prepared if you’re going to sweep Derek off his feet.

Derek White Heart Event

This is your introductory event, where you’ll meet Derek while he’s working. During this encounter, Kevin will appear to talk about his latest prank. You’ll get to comment on his schemes once he leaves, so choose the option that says ‘He’s quite the prankster, huh?’ to score extra points.

Fragrance For The Cafe Request

For this request, Derek will ask you to acquire three herbal perfumes for the cafe. You can make them from herbs like lavender, chamomille, and mint at the red windmill. Bring the goods to Derek to unlock more hearts you can earn.

Derek Blue Heart Event

For this event, Jules will stop by to check on his little brother. This irks Derek, causing him to lash out. Later, he’ll apologize that you had to see that and explain the situation. When he asks for your advice, select the option that says ‘Show him you can handle yourself!’

Chill-Out Juice! Request

Derek needs to relax, and so he asks if you can bring him some juice to try. Any juice will so, so long as you bring five servings of it. The juice must be one-star quality or higher. Once you have the juice in your bag, bring it to Derek to unlock the next pair of hearts.

For this heart event, you’ll meet Derek at his house to help him with his pursuit of cooking. Of course, it’s not going to go perfectly, but you’re here to help. When Jules asks if Derek should even be in the kitchen, tell him that Derek will be fine.

Medal Collectors Unite! Request

For this request, you’ll need to bring Derek 20 medals you dig up around town. These can be rewarded to you in the mail for various accomplishments, but the best way to farm them is to find disturbed soil mounds around Zephyr Town. Use your hoe to till the soil and uncover treasures! Bring 20 to Derek to unlock the next set of hearts.

Derek Yellow Heart Event

Once you max out the yellow hearts, keep an eye on the map for a pink exclamation mark around Derek! In this event, you’ll get to tell Derek how you feel.

Confess your feelings towards him or tell him you’d rather remain friends–you can change your mind later, but it’s a good idea not to wait if you want to marry Derek as soon as possible!
